Melodifestivalen 1 – The Songs

As the second post on Melodifestivalen 2019 let us look at the songs.

My list at the Night The real result in ():

  1. Anna Bergendahl – Ashes to ashes (Second chance contest)
  2. Zeana feat. Anis Don Demina – Mina Bränder
  3. Wiktoria – Not with me (Final)
  4. Mohombi – Hello (Final)
  5. Nano – Chasing Rivers (Second chance contest)
  6. High 15 – No drama
  7. Arja Saijonmaa – Mina fyra årstider

Anna Bergendahl “Ashes to ashes” I really surprised myself when I ended up with a list with Anna on the top. Cause I normally do not like anything she produced so far. As a Eurovision blogger back when she won the Melodifestivalen last time she participated I was more or less cyber killed telling that she would send Sweden out from the final in Eurovision. History gave me right and she is still the only artist from Sweden to fail to reach the final (Charlotte was saved by the juries with “Hero” but still Sweden was in the final). But “Ashes to ashes” was the best song during the nigh even if Anna looked more like a manic skier from Norway dressed up for a award show. In this song her voice actually worked and not sounded like nails on a blackboard.

Zeana feat. Anis Don Demina “Mina bränder” at first I was like, “what?” but when the chorus started I really liked it. I do think, maybe, that Anis Don Demina should have done this solo cause Zeana both looked and sounded very nervous. This song will most likely sound much much better recorded than live so I suppose it will end up as one of the most played songs from melodifestivalen 2019 in my home.

Wiktoria “Not with me” a song Sanna Nielsen might have rocked and Wiktoria tries to as much as she can. But this ballad only work cause of the show, without the rain on stage she would most likely only reached the “Second chance”. She kind of demonstrate whats so wrong with Melodifestivalen and Eurovision today, its not about the music it is about the concept and the presentation. The show is effective and will end up on the top when we reach the final in March 2019.

Mohombi “Hello” turn us back to the 80s and “A-Ha” in his performance, not the song tho´which made be so disappointed. I am a fan of Mohombi and he is well known here in France which makes me wonder if his decision to enter the Swedish selection and not the French one might have been a mistake cause even if “Hello” made me disappointed as a song I would have loved it to kick Bilal Hassani out as the French contestant in Eurovision. For me “Hello” only bring 3 minutes of endless repeats of the word “Hello” and has nothing of the beat Mohombis songs usually bring us. Very very lame and I can’t see how any televoting European will lift the phone and call for this. A second Benjamin Ingrosso year if we send Mohombi, jury say yes and the viewers no. And the flirt with the “Take on me” video might have been fun if the songs was a 80s tune… Now its just “Why is he doing Take on me?”

Nano “Chasing rivers” Oh NO, this is even worse than the shit he presented last. Then I understood he would be popular cause he then entered as a underdog and the song had some drive and beat so even if I hated it I got the hype. But this? “Chasing rivers” is a amazingly bad try to repeat his last entry in “Melodifestivalen”. And as an artist he brings nothing to the world. No performer ever been so dated but thinking he is all that.

High 15 “No drama” In the year of the Spice Girls reunion SVT picks out a girl group (knowing that the girl groups never work in Eurovision) with. song turning out to be three songs in one and not connected what so ever. A pity cause Im sure the girls are talented and really nice. And girls, you’re a girl group, the words “We are so different and come from different backgrounds but it works so well and we are best friends” will work for 1 year then you will start to change girls in the group and 6 months later one go solo and the group is no more. Just want to give you a heads up so you don’t be disappointed.

Arja Saijonmaa “Mina fyra årstider”, beautiful beautiful Arja, this was…. Tragic… Be lucky you advocate the reasons for the global warming to be the fault of the human race and not deny it cause if so would never have reached the Melodifestivalen scene. The no politic comepetion which is one of the most political competitions ever made going Political Correct and present a first entry in the accepted “Åsiktskorridor”. Cause I cannot see that this song was picked to participate of any other reason than the Lex Greta Thunberg cause the song was bad.. so bad, and I love Arja. The big “?” is where was Tobias Karlsson in all this he kind of escort Arja in all “gay” events… Another thing If Arja won the contest can you see SVT to put her and all of the Swedish delegation on a boat to Tel Aviv to not end up in a discussion on the carbon footprint.

I dont think, and I hope, the winner 2019 not among the first 4 going to the final or second chance contest but we will see. It takes all songs to in full understand who Christer Björkman decided he want to send to Tel Aviv.

Swedish pre-selection started, the melodifestivalen 2019

So, it was time for the first semi final of the Melodifestivalen 2019 and for 6 week Sweden will no forget about politics, immigration problems and live in the famous “Mello” bubble. And to not drown my blog in Melodifestivalen news I will try too keep it to two posts a week. But of course note the “try too”. As a fact I will break this rule at once by posting this one about the show and a second one about the songs.

So how was the first show? First of all we note 4 hosts of the show. I can’t see the reason for this cause its been proven to work well with 1 and 2 throughout the years and 4 makes it very messy. “But wait a minute” the ESC fans screams, the ESC have 4 hosts now and it works… Yes, but in ESC the hosts are more or less not in the show, they do not present each song they only turn up in the beginning and the end and in the green room. When 4 hosts actually host it gets a bit strange but very very SVT, one for each minority and a cute boy.

Also very SVT is to educate the Swedes watching (and they are many) to follow whats Political Correct at the moment. Its been said before, official Melodifestivalen and Eurovision is non political events but if the message is 100% in tune with what you suppose tho think no problem to include it in jokes or songs. This year its of course liberal values and globalization.

I also, before the show, Tweeted that we will see how far in in the show it will take until we have jokes about the political mess in Sweden and it only took a few minutes. Very expected but it actually worked cause so far SVT at least tried to not tell the audience it was the best for Sweden what happened. Together with the amazing showstopper, about the Israeli winners in the Eurovision history (where 4 hosts actually all of a sudden made sense) it was expected but worked well.

I also liked the fact that SVT actually tried to make the show grown up again. Less children show and more professional. Appreciated from my point of view but it might lower the interest from the age groups 3 – 14 years of age at the end of the 6 weeks.

And again, to announce voting records without announcing if the increase is in televotes or the the use of the free, no charge application is redundant. Of course more votes will be placed if its free of charge, thats not rocket science. This years addition also took out the SMS votes and updated the free use of the Mello application. Really? Keep the SMS votes and let people use the app but not for votes just as a poll what the audience like to not.

It seems like SVT need the application so they won’t need to announce less votes than the year before, a mistake from the start when they introduced the application.

Another really really embarrassing thing that all of a sudden turned out to be very obvious is the fact that more or less 3 songs writers stand behind most of the songs in this first show. After three songs it was more or less a joke… Deb, Deb and Gson, Deb Deb and Gson…. Really?

And its all about the songs and that will be my second post later today.

My friends don’t understand me….

It’s obvious that my friends don’t understand me, or more they do not understand the meaning of life… My former colleague Agustina entered her work without a clue who Mylène Farmer is… I tried to update her on the obvious: “Take Beatles, ABBA, Rollings Stones, Mozart, Beyoncè and Madonna” and morph them into one person and you will end up with Mylène Farmer.

From my point of view a perfect and very true statement something my next former colleague Sèbastien kind of thought was “en peu” outside real life but at least he admitted that she is a French icon.

So, yesterday I received my ticket for the First Concert in June 2019, yes the FIRST of (I think 7 all together) which i gladly shared on the social media at my disposal and the reaction from my envious friends was – NADA! NIENTE! NONE! AUCUN!

Don’t you understand how jealous you all need to be? Whats wrong with you guys?

So, I only announce this once, I will try to get tickets to at least 2 more of the Concert dates but cheaper seats, “Da Girl is expensive to watch live”

City snow

Yesterday, even before lunchtime, a rumor spread in the office… Snow on it’s way, again, second time this Paris winter and 15 cm, they say 15 cm!!!

And of course soon the office was divided into different groups with their own opinion on snow (this is not only a Paris thing it happens world wide).

The Panic Group – First question… Can I even travel back home? Do i need to stay in the office, have we stocked up water, food and batteries?

The dreamers – Oh it’s so beautiful, white landscapes or a snowy Place de la Concorde, children playing in the white snow and many many selfies will be uploaded on Instagram.

The City Snow pack – Oh wait for a minute, we live in a huge city, snow wont stay snow will turn to water, freeze and then turn to ice NOT optimal for people to walk around in.

The three groups do not communicate well together but let me as a native Scandinavian tell the world one thing. Snow and winter is ONLY beautiful on postcards and winter is fun if you visit and can leave it again. And snow falling in big cities, depending of the degrees, can only turn into two different scenarios. Wet and slippery or huge amounts of snow blocking everything and create the chaos expected by the Panic Group mentioned above.

Winter is, and will continue to be hell on earth… D’accord?

Still calm

As always when we get closer to the launch of the early edition of the “Melodifestivalen” it’s a bit exciting to open the Swedish news sites. But still calm, and I guess the scandals will start tomorrow, maybe on Thursday, cause what is Melodifestivalen without it’s scandals? It’s actually 6 weeks when a third world war can erupt and the Swedish public won’t know until after the Melodifestivalen ends with the final in March. Crazy? Bien sûr!

Most likely I will both attack the show as well as honor the once who’s worth it and some will agree some will be upset. Just like here in France after the French selection ended last weekend with Bilal Hassanis victory. The You tube generation following Bilal since he was a “star” in the French show “The Voice Kids” praise the choice of the Bilal as their entry. And most likely they are the reason behind his victory cause I am surprised if the French, usually with a very good taste and a pride in “sounding” French in the Eurovision Song Contest, all of a sudden lost their common sense and voted Bilal.

But at the same time, the French equivalent to RFSL in Sweden decided to press charges to all Tweets and Instagram posts writing any negative thing about Bilal Hassani. Yesterday it was 15 000 posts reported to the French Police, cause the French police do not have anything else to worry about… Yellow west and keeping terror away from the streets as two examples. But… For some people it’s more important to defend a possible offended 19 year old Conchita wannabe with a mediocre song.

But as said in the beginning, we have not seen what the Swedish selection bring us in form of scandals during 2019. But let me make some guesses… There will be jokes about the fact that one of four presenters Mr Erik Saade will get married… They will joke about girls gettin’ heartbroken as if Erik still felt as an important part of Swedish music life. Most likely his reason behind accepting to be one of the presenters is to stay in the spotlight.

We will most likely also be under attack by Ms Linda Woodruff, AKA Sarah Dawn Finer. A fake Eurovision expert I wish they killed off the humor grid years ago. I don’t find her funny, but it’s my humor obvious cause the ESC fans under 25 y.o. loves her. At the same time it is the same fans who claim there fans of the Eurovision and still hardly have a clue of what happened in the Contest before 2000.

I also guess the Selection, voting, will hear jokes about the Swedish Political election and the aftermath. Jokes like, “The result will be the real one and like in politics the winner will be the winner” etc etc. Let us say at least one kind of similar jokes in each program?

Of course the Public Service will hammer in that Swedes are nice and take homo fobia and racism seriously by teaching the public what they are suppose to think about immigrants and homosexuals. Even if the Public Service official is neutral when it comes to politics this is two themes in all Melodifestivalen and will most likely render the same amount of protests as every year from people NOT agree. Maybe they even will be able to make some jokes or info about the fact that Netta won 2018 telling the world that people are beautiful just the way they are… And for sure let us say 6 songs will keep that theme????

And in the name of neutral the Public Service might have some songs competing on the themes free immigration, open boarders and same sex love rights and none about closed borders, restricted immigration and Christian family values. Cause SVT are OK with politics if the politics is 100% Political Correct. So who knows, can we expect Malena Ernman to arrive as paus entertainment singing “La Voix” with a new text about her daughter and how fantastic she is?

In any case, let’s follow the Mello and let’s see what I will think about this years arrangement.

Paris late January 2019

I have already touched the subject in some previous posts but it’s worth to repeat, Paris is winter is not funnier than winter in Stockholm. Gray and cold Paris can well be compared to a snowy cold Stockholm.

But its not that cold in Paris someone say… No it’s not but in Stockholm you have a complete different wardrobe, you ready to fight the power of nature. In Paris the cold weather, even if you know it will come, comes as a surprise and you look at your French winter jacket (same as what you in Sweden will call a September jacket) and realize this is a crazy persons decision of outfit in winter.

Mais, Ces’t la vie – and will I learn? Not likely.

Amanda Lind

Sweden have a new Government and replacing the former Disney Club anchor woman Alice B-K as Minister of Culture and Democracy we have the first minister ever in Sweden with dreads.

Today in the tabloid Expressen Martina Montelius write about how nice Amandas life seems to be so why does she want to be in the Government? The only plus is the money. I hope, and deep down, i think the article is ironic but I am not sure so to give my view.

Representing your country I actually think some kind of presentable look is required. On your free time as a “nobody” well, dreads, or a face full of tattoos or like to go to work cross dressing is up to you I don’t care. But in this case I am too conservative. Enough about the hair.

But, the article… Everything she writes about Amanda and her life just confirms a lot of my views, i know its prejudices, about a person with the look she presents. On the free time she like to dress up as an Elf and go on Lajvs. Her husband or boyfriend, i do not know, think he can fly when he do yoga (levitate). And I suppose his girlfriend Amanda agree on those facts cause at least I would never be able to live with someone who thinks he can levitate.

One of the first things she told the press was that she tried cannabis as young(er), something I am 100% sure is true what I don’t believe is that it ended there, I am so sorry but every word in the article about Amanda tells me that it’s never a good idea to smoke cannabis (even if it’s just to try). But most likely we have someone in the Government now who will be pro-cannabis and support legalization of the drug if the question is raised.

If you know Swedish and like to read the article you find it here; EXPRESSEN
